Summer Walker may get a bad rep for her music, but on her latest album Still Over It she included a closing track that has many women inspired. Titled “Ciara’s Prayer”, the song features fellow Atlanta R&B star Ciara “reciting” the prayer she made that eventually landed her in the arms of husband Russell Wilson. Many fans are looking for their own Russell-like knight in shining armor now, and thanks to CiCi they might just know what to ask for finally.
Summer Walker is one of the leading women in R&B music right now. She emerged virtually out of nowhere in the fall of 2018 with the Drake assisted “Girls Need Love Too” making her an instant star. This was followed by her full length debut Over It which featured collaborations with Usher, Bryson Tiller and Jhene Aiko.
Around this time Summer and super producer London on Da Track went public with their relationship, and began a whirl wind affair that would serve as much of the inspiration for her sophomore album. The pair were often criticized for their PDA, social media spats and rumors of infidelity. They eventually had a child together, but as Summer reveals on Still Over It‘s “4th Baby Mama” she spent much of her pregnancy alone. She also accused him of faking his contributions to her album. The singer doubled down on social media after people began making jokes that “London produced his own diss tracks.” She widdled down his Still Over It contributions to basically nothing saying all he did “was sprinkle a wind chime effect on a song that was already done.”
Despite controversy over how much he actually contributed, one thing is for sure the album is a major success. Summer has the proud distinction of some of the biggest first week sales from a female R&B singer since Beyonce’s Lemonade. In fact, in a post by Summer, she confirms that Still Over It is the biggest “album debut ever by a female identifying artist.”
This in large part is probably owed to the albums confessional nature and candid talk about toxic relationships. In a bid to offer fans a cleanse at the end of the album, Summer offers us “Ciara’s Prayer”. Following the song “4th Baby Mama”, the prayer feels like a reset and a sign of things to come for Summer and women like her who maybe stayed in a bad relationship a little too long and are ready to something positive.
Fans will recall Ciara had a pretty toxic union with rapper Future. The two share a child together, but the relationship ended pretty bad. Ciara would eventually meet and marry Russell Wilson and has been the picture of happiness and positivity ever since. Fans have been clamoring for “the secret” to how she found the perfect man. Ciara has always maintained that it was prayer and reflection that lead her into the arms of true love.
On the album closer Ciara says “Jesus, I need you. I don’t fully understand everything right now, but I know you have great plans for me. I’m hurting, but there’s purpose in my pain. I need you. I need you to restore my faith in love, give me strength.”
She goes on to manifest the man who would eventually be Russell Wilson. “I pray the nеxt man of my life will be my husband. I pray he loves me, leads me, guides me, reassures me, I pray that he holds me, I pray that I have everything I want and need in him. I pray he will love me the way that you love me.” She concluded with “Lord, thank you for reminding me who I am, I am a queen, I deserve to be treated like one. I’m a warrior, I will get up. I’m a child of God, I’m everything you say I am. I’m an overcomer, I’m built for this. Lord, I’m ready, in Jesus name, Amen”
Everyone from Tamar Braxton to LaLa Anthony have joked about using Ciara’s prayer. Comedian Lil Duval made light of it joking that a lot of women want Russell Wilson’s but don’t realize that they are passing one up because he may not be rich. Fans in his comments shut that down asap retorting “if he ain’t rich then he aint Russell!”
