Keisha Knight Pulliam is known for her iconic role in the 80’s sitcom The Cosby Show. Little Rudy Huxtable grew up before our very eyes and has remained in the spotlight for several decades through a series of roles and hosting gigs. While nothing has ever eclipsed her time as a Huxtable, she does have her eyes set on a role that could be her biggest if granted the opportunity.
Keisha is currently the host of Married at First Sight’s aftershow. Pulliam has had an extensive relationship with the Lifetime network, and her latest role allows her to be a part of a show she says she was already a huge fan of. While promoting her newest gig on The Nick Cannon show, Pulliam described it as a natural progression with Lifetime before plugging her upcoming Christmas movie that she shot with her husband.
Cannon then turned the attention to Pulliam’s Instagram, where he asked the actress for the stories behind some of her photos. In one photo, Keisha posed it up with music icon Janet Jackson. Pulliam explains that she has known Jackson since she was a child and has always dreamed of playing her in a biopic. Cannon immediately agreed, noting the similarities in their faces. Keisha understands that the clock is ticking, though, and says if she ages out of the role, she would still love to executive produce or direct it.
Keisha and Janet share a few similarities. Besides their slight resemblance, they also both got their start as child stars on very iconic black television shows. Keisha on the Cosby show, and Janet on Good Times. They are also both working with Lifetime at the moment on different projects.
Janet is gearing up for her Lifetime documentary, simply titled Janet, to hit the small screen on the 28th. In it, Janet is offering an honest look at her life and career through her own lens. The preview teases never before seen footage and Janet opening up about her father, her marriages, motherhood and of course, her brother Michael Jackson.
Some fans supported the notion of Keisha stepping into Janet’s famous bustiers as long as she could pull off the moves. “Keisha, She’s almost as Pretty as Janet so I can see her playing Janet” said one. Another commented, “Hold up now 😂😂😂😂 u gotta have the moves.”
Other’s felt there were better options for the role. One flat-out said, “All I see is Rudy Huxtable!” Some recommended Halle Berry, Ciara, Teyana Taylor, and Halle Bailey to play the famous Jackson sister. “The only person that can even come close to playing this icon @janetjackson Is @teyanataylor !” said one fan.
Well, until plans for an official Janet Jackson movie are revealed, fans will have to get the story directly from the pop star next weekend. Her lifetime documentary will follow an unauthorized one produced by The New York Times that premiered last year and focused on Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl Half Time show. Despite being made with the best intentions, a source close to Janet revealed that she wanted nothing to do with it and did not need to be “freed” like fellow pop star Britney Spears.
