Who is a bigger troll than Lil Nas X in 2021? We’ll wait. Other well-known trolls have not had nearly the Internet success and chatter this year than Lil Nas X. That’s not including his music, which has also brought the pop-star massive success, viral moments, sales and certifications, and accolades. Tekashi 6ix9ine has been noticeably absent and quiet from social media, and 50 Cent is still, well, 50 Cent. But, none of them have done what Lil Nas X has done this year. Now, many are dubbing him the funniest artist in music.
The campaign for Lil Nas X’s debut studio album Montero has been arguably genius and controversial at the same time. From the music videos, to the “satan shoes”, the rapper/pop-star has found ways to remain the topic of conversation in the music industry and general public this year. His live showings have also grown immensely in both production and performance, whether it be award shows or his Saturday Night Live showing. All of his sizzling performances have left the media, fans, and critics talking. Mission Accomplished indeed.
However, his trolling has also been more prevalent within the last year. No doubt continuing from his running of the “Nicki Minaj fan account” days til now, Lil Nas X has somewhat developed more of a mastery for trolling. In recent months leading up to his September 17th release date, Lil Nas X’s presence became more and more outlandish, in the most creative and sometimes hilarious ways. This could also be a true testament to him embracing his true self and allowing himself the grace and space to be fully free.
As Drake was gearing up to release his highly anticipated sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy, Lil Nas X decided to hop on the bandwagon as well. The release of Drake’s album cover on social media conjured up a slew of mixed reactions from social media, but users also took the initiative to make their own iterations of the cover. Joining in, and possibly besting the Internet, was Lil Nas X who annouced his release date along with the cover that showed 12 different male emojis that were pregnant. This would drop prior to him revealing the actual cover for Montero.

Following up with this image, a few days later Lil Nas X revealed that he was ACTUALLY pregnant. Strange right? Except, there were pictures to prove that he was, except he wasn’t! Pictures of a pregnant Montero, courtesy of PEOPLE were all the rage (and in true form, controversy from those who were up in arms at the idea of a pregnant man) as he was seen with a baby bump and a crown of flowers for his head. Other pictures showed the rapper in a bathrobe as he held his baby bump. However, those that actually believed the young man was pregnant in real life (go figure, right?) would come to find out that he was only about to give birth to his long-awaited album.

Nas X also followed up the annoucement with a video clip showing an extravagant baby shower for his upcoming birth. However, apparently nobody showed up. Gifts from artists such as Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, and Jack Harlow were present in the video, which fans would find out later that these were the collaborators for the album.
Lil Nas X also set the Internet, and rapper Boosie Badazz, on fire when he announced that he would be releasing a song with the “Retalliation” rapper soon. Hopping on Instagram Live, the rapper stated “So, I been working on this song with Lil Boosie, bro! I got this song with Lil Boosie finna come out. Fire, I ain’t even gon’ lie, for real. Song with Boosie finna come out.” This was also proven to just be a joke.
And with the heavy onset of Internet scammers rising up nowadays trying to secure anyone’s financial information, Lil Nas X might have titillated all of them unintentionally. He tweeted out what looked like the numbers to his Visa card, which garnered massive attention. Good luck to those who tried anything!
His latest stunt has the Internet in a frenzy, with some labeling him the funniest artist out in music right now for his antics. According to a recent promo video with Maury, Lil Nas X can be seen arguing that his ex-boyfriend was indeed a cheater with a secret child and was married all along.
