Queens star Brandy is glowing! The new year is already in full swing, and Brandy is wasting no time in letting her star fully shine. At 42-years-old, Brandy shows no signs of slowing down with some new projects in the works. In addition to staying busy, the singer looks stunning in the process.
It has been almost 30 years since a 14-year-old Brandy Norwood sang to the world, “I Wanna Be Down.” Since then, multiple hits have been spawned and multiplatinum albums and films. Her self-titled debut album produced four singles that were well received and sold over 2 million units. An impressive feat for a debut artist, Brandy’s success was far from over. Her sophomore album, Never Say Never, increased her status in more ways than one. Never Say Never was led by the Monica-assisted single “The Boy Is Mine,” which secured the duo a Grammy Award and multiple other awards. In addition, the album’s sales bested her debut, ultimately becoming certified 5x platinum by the RIAA.
Brandy’s other albums also achieved numerous hits and fan favorites that stuck for years. Along with the albums, the singer’s resume grew on the film side. Soon, Brandy became America’s princess as she starred alongside her mentor Whitney Houston in the television film Cinderella, which became a massive rating success. She was then cast in films such as Double Platinum, and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer while juggling the lead role in the UPN show, Moesha. The show was also a significant success for Brandy.
Things were seemingly on a constant rise for Brandy, even becoming a mother to daughter Sy’rai Smith. But her path was not always an easy or bright one. In 2006, Brandy was involved in a car accident that unfortunately led to the loss of life. Although she was able to settle out of court with the multiple lawsuits she faced, the experience would lead to years of mental anguish.
In 2020, Brandy recalled the rough period to People and how it affected her. According to the “Borderline” singer, she began to experience severe depression, which made her soon consider taking her own life. However, Brandy credits her daughter for helping her to see the light at the end of the tunnel, assisting her in the dark period. Through the years, Brandy’s image also has come into question. At times, many fans have shed light on the singer’s weight, with many speculating that she might be pregnant. After years of unkind words from blogs and some people in public, Brandy finally came forward to speak on the rumors.
In an interview with True Exclusives, Brandy explained that she desired somewhat an extensive break after years of “eating clean” within her career. The singer stressed that if she were indeed pregnant, she would “not be embarrassed.” Following her depiction of “Roxie Hart” in the Broadway play Chicago, Brandy decided to take a “foodcation.” In 2018, Brandy stated goals of losing around 15 pounds as she declared that she had no desire to become “skinny Brandy” again. Instead, noticing the added curves that the extra weight packed on, Brandy made her aim of getting a flat stomach without losing her ‘assets.’
Well, mission accomplished! Fans have witnessed Brandy’s stunning transformation since making that promise. At the start of 2020, the singer rang in the New Year on the yearly Dick Clark special with a performance in a noticeably slimmer figure. And although pretty bundled up in a somewhat eccentric outfit at the highly anticipated and mass-viewed Verzuz battle against Monica, Brandy was all smiles and in great spirits. The positive vibes continued when it was announced that Brandy would be starring alongside Eve and Naturi Naughton in the new ABC sitcom Queens. Fans are also delighted to hear that she will soon begin to work on the follow-up to her last album, B7. Brandy also recently collaborated with legendary singer Mariah Carey, which she described to Rated RnB as a “dream come true.” With all that’s on the horizon for Brandy, it’s no wonder that she’s feeling the way she’s feeling!
